I’ve climbed Mount Kinabalu!

One of the top “things-to-do” that I have wanted to achieve since I was 18 has finally been cleared!

So glad that I’m starting to fulfill my life dreams one by one.

The climb up was not immensely difficult, though it was not a walk in the park either. I find the hardest part at the last 700 metres to the summit. I was at the verge of giving up so many times. My stomach was growling with accumulated gasses and hunger; the wind was blowing cold air into my exposed face, I was tired both physically and mentally.

I really wanted to give up. Imagine if I did! I would have kicked myself silly for stopping just 700 metres away!

The thing that helped and made a difference was the constant voice of encouragement by a friend. She held my hand at the toughest point and stopped with me when I felt low. Then she would say “Are we ok now? Ready to move on?”

Another friend would also say “Ok let’s move forward” And he would say it no matter how many times we stop.

By the time I reach the top, I was unable to catch the sunrise, but oh boy, was the view wondrous. I was just in awe that 4,095 metres above ground and we did it.

My feel good moment at the top 🙂

A long absence and an Olympic experience

I finally have time to write! Its been a busy period and boy many things have happened!

From partying, to working late hours, running around, mostly having loads of fun to the real down times – there were loads of hair pulling, crying, bawling and just down moments involved.

However the more recent and talked about event had to be last night – the badminton final between two old competitors. Two who have been battling out over the years. It was a close and exciting fight, I had my breath held at many heart stopping parts. With my family and the rest of my country, we screamed, we shouted, we encouraged. My god I never felt so in touch with the rest my countrymen before.

I was watching from the comforts of my home but I swear I could hear the cries echoed throughout the horizons. It was a very very close match, one that we are immensely proud of, Dato Lee Chong Wei was victorious in attaining Malaysia’s first Silver Olympic medal. First ever since god knows when!

He marked the event with the flag of our country and I’ve never felt so proud being a Malaysian. Of course we were hoping for our first Gold but nonetheless we saw how he tried, how he has improved and how he really strived for it. We couldn’t ask for anything more, we could only hope for better results the next time round.

Now, I’m finally gonna buy his book and read it. Just because.

its the little gestures

that pleases me the most.

I love cards, cakes, muffins, cookies, and even little handwritten notes.

The first time I was asked out was from a cute little email (which unfortunately at a young naive age, I didn’t realise what it was and turned it down!).

The first time someone told me that they like me (romantically) was through a torn piece of paper with handwritten words saying : I like you. A lot.

The first time I flew overseas for my studies, I received a letter written with beautiful multi-coloured pens. Boy did that encourage me.

I was most encouraged by a text, a hug and a smile.

Macarons loving baked wrapped in soft paper, placed in a recycled gift box gave me the boost I needed during my rough times.

A short chat with my parents gave my heart the support it needed.

It is the little gestures that filled up the gaps of my ups and downs daily. It is the little gestures that gave me the hope, that life is more than it can be.

Its only Words

Friday morning, I dragged myself out of bed after a night of finishing work due for the morning. Did sit ups as an attempt to wake my body, took a cold shower, packed my things and off I went.

I drove slow, I was early anyway, and savoured the journey with Chris Tomlin serenading my ears in his soothing voice. I was still feeling pretty much worned out. Like a wet shirt scrubbed over and over again till all the soap suds were wringed out.

Parked my car and I walked the 5 minute distance to my office building, my steps were heavy and I almost felt like turning back and call in sick. I was feeling a little melancholy, and so tired, oh so tired. My heart was sore from a beating and my head was abused repeatedly with all the head banging and work to process.

Until a stranger spoke, “Good morning sweetheart, do you know what’s the beautiful thing about today?”

Being polite, I asked, “No, what is it?”

He grinned flashing his pearly whites “Thank God its Friday!”

I was taken aback from his sudden announcement I couldn’t help but let out a laugh and agree with him!

Kind words, encouraging words, random words, all the words. They’re important and they feed the soul, especially to a logophile like me.

Its a fantastic morning, so work, its game on, I’m ready for you!

Have a wonderful Friday and a marvelous weekend everyone!

WORDS by boyzone

a song I was humming along to right after the happy incident

Smile an ever lasting smile
A smile can bring you near to me
Don’t ever let me find you gone
‘Cause that would bring a tear to me

This world has lost its glory
Let’s start a brand new story
Now my love
You think that I don’t even mean
A single word I say

It’s only words
And words are all I have

To take your heart away

Talk in ever lasting words
And dedicate them all to me
And I will give you all my life
I’m here if you should call to me

You think that I don’t even mean
A single word I say

It’s only words
And words are all I have
To take your heart away

Rockstar getting a present for the Goth

Can you imagine a rockstar trying to find out what to give to the Goth living in the same pad?

Well, living together helped with the bonding and thus giving us the opportunity to know what each other’s likes and dislikes. It was an exciting journey for all my endless singing and the Goths endless moping. (I exaggerate but it can be a little disturbing telling everyone how the Goth would have some random laughing sessions…I got used to it.)

One thing I never tire of was the Goth’s blatant dislike for sunlight, and its really funny since her room is located at the sunniest place of the pad, while I live in constant gloom. By the way, gloomy weathers rock my world. I digressed, well the entertaining part comes early in the morning just as the rising sun approaches and I tip-toed into the Goth’s domain…slow and quiet footsteps to make sure not to awaken the Goth’s wrath, then when the sun starts shining in brightly, with a great swing of my arms I opened heaven!!! Let the hissing commence…

That is one of my favourite things to do.

So me getting a present for the Goth’s turning of age, was quite an adventure as well. Strange presents from all sorts of dodgy places first sprang to mind, then I thought hey, maybe I should get something normal for once, something that may affect the Goth’s whole outlook. Maybe, just maybe, the Goth might end up smiling! (That…is actually a scary thought, again, I exaggerate for effect.)

I’m sure the Goth ocassionally stalks my site so am not going to reveal the nature of the present, but I have hinted a little in the previous paragraph.

Oh I’m so excited!!

I’m back on my Blackberry!

FINALLY! After receiving an upgrade for WordPress on Blackberry’s Applications, I can blog to my hearts contents from anywhere with network connection!

Ahhhh…I feel the 6 degrees of connection closing in on me. I’m not out of touch with the world now!

I’m so happy that no coherent thought can be formed! So I’ll just bask in the simple happiness of finally having WordPress link me with the web society.

Adventurous Birthday

Whoa! In another blink of an eye, a year has passed! Always never felt the years creeping in…before I knew it I’ve reached 22!

It was a great birthday, I came for work, not expecting anything and concentrating on the things I’m supposed to do as well as preparation for the trip to Malacca, there were alot of things to do!

All of a sudden, I saw my friend stormed into the office carrying a birthday cake! I was excited, of course I thought it was for me! She told me no, its for herself, so I thought nothing about it. But as soon as I’ve changed later that afternoon to get ready to leave for Malacca, I saw TWO cakes on the table along with snacks, paper plates…and my colleagues around the place singing happy birthday! That was truly awesome, I didn’t expect everyone to come together for this. *tears*

After the happy feast, my friend and I left for Malacca, that is another adventure I’ll have to relate some time soon, but the journey there was exciting and long…really long.

Lets skip to the good parts, we finally arrived at the hotel, a really grand looking hotel, INSIDE OUT! After being on the road for almost 3 hours, we got hungry and went searching for food, along the way we saw this huge shopping mall, checked it out and before we ordered food at the restaurant, a friend called us.

We were whisked away from the restaurant and transported to a shop along the road where we tasted an exotic dish, known famously among Malaccan’s = Satay Celup.

I have one thing to say: DELICIOUS!

Yeap thats it. You want to know more? Go taste it for yourself, I just can’t justify the proper words to describe such simple extravagances of life.

We did not each much since the friend wanted to introduce more of Malacca’s cuisines…and we were brought to this alley way, really suspicious aye? But as we walked further amongst the sour smell of the drain and detergent…there were really small chairs and a few long low tables. I couldn’t believe my eyes and ears but this is the place we shall be dining at! A drain side restaurant! We were served La La, See Ham and rojak with fishcakes. I was feeling slightly nausea tic because of the environment, but my friend was really comfortable and happily chowing down the See Ham’s and La La’s…I was trying not to vomit on the spot, ah such a delicate stomach resides in me.

After our alley dinner, we move onto our next destination…the beach! Our friend cum tour guide informed us that this area is a well known romantic spot in Malacca, its actually a long board that goes up to 100 metres from the shore where couples may dangle their feet with the star lit sky above their heads and the sound of the waves below their feet. At that place, my friend and another sang me my birthday song! Under the star lit sky and the roaring of the sea, what more could I ask for?

Its awesome, I can’t wait for the next few birthdays to come by! 😀
